Racial Diversity in Health Communication Is Worthy of Investment Impact Report

In this report, Racial Diversity in Health Communication is Worthy of Investment, CFHJ explores the data on racial diversity in the communications and health communication industries, how diverse leadership is connected to revenue and innovation, and how a racially-diverse team can improve your health communication practices.

2nd Annual Racial Diversity in Health Communication Impact Report

In last year's report, "Racial Diversity₁ in Health Communication is Worthy of Investment," CFHJ explored employer data from findings from the Diversity Action Alliance to get a picture of racial diversity in the communications and health communication industries. This includes communication professionals in academia, government, nonprofit, and privately funded organizations. Later we stressed how diverse leadership is connected to substantial increases in revenue and innovation, and offered solutions on how a racially-diverse team can improve health communication practices. In the second report, CFHJ will reflect on the current representation within the health communication industry, using the measures from last year's analysis as a framework.

Reflections on #SpeakonIt2022

On Tuesday April 5th, 2022 at 12pm, 61 attendees logged into Communicate For Health Justice (CFHJ)’S first Summit, #SpeakOnIt! The online event gathered the attention of multiple professionals representing various industries, from healthcare, to health departments across the country. The agenda for the two-hour Summit consisted of opening and closing remarks, a panel, two unique breakout sessions, and virtual interactive booths. But unlike other health communication-focused conferences, #SpeakOnIt took the time to center pro-Black communications, and why it matters for health equity. In this report, CFHJ will reflect on the highlights of #SpeakOnIt 2022, how it's unique, why health communication is different from health education, and demonstrate the importance of developing health communications that is informed by Black experience (s).

Workplace Equity Report: A Health Justice Perspective

In previous reports, CFHJ has taken a look at the demographic make-up of the health communication field. In this report, CFHJ will reflect on the another aspect of workforce, the occurrence of workplace abuse within organizations working towards health justice. For the purpose of this report and to maximize the availability of data, CFHJ will focus on public health-related organizations (i.e health departments and social services orgs), not health care companies. Through an examination of first-hand accounts of workforce inequities in published journal articles, CFHJ provides communication best practices and policy recommendations to address this growing problem. This report will have important implications for now and future workforce of health communicators, as we work to highlight the idea that in order to make true impact, we can’t “pour from an empty cup.”
